Being a living, breathing musical instrument means that the fuel we give it makes a difference. That means that recipes and meal prep is an important tool for singers.
If you have ever been part way through a singing lesson, rehearsal or performance and suddenly, deeply regretted the meal you had an hour ago…then this blog is for you!
You may want to bookmark this page so you can return to download recipes anytime you need them. (NB…this is neither comprehensive nor complete…but it is a growing collection!)
Singer-Friendly Food
It is important to choose food that:
- Gives slow release energy (low GI)
- Includes protein
- Is high in water content
- Doesn’t trigger allergies, reflux, indigestion, flatulence etc
I recommend testing meals out on days when a negative outcome doesn’t matter, so you know what works for you and what to avoid.
Sharon’s Recipe Criteria
I have a personal preference for:
- LOTS of vegetables
- Pulses (chickpeas, beans, lentils etc)
- Grains (brown rice, quinoa)
- Little or no meat
- Little or no pasta or bread
- Mild spice
- Little or no sugar
- Caffeine in moderation
- No alcohol
- One-pot cooking
- Bulk cooking that can be frozen and reheated as needed
- Salads full of all the colours of the rainbow

How about you? What works for you? Have you found meals that satisfy your voice and energy needs?
Here is a collection of recipes gathered myself and recommended by friends. It is winter weather heavy at the moment and I want to add summer recipes as the year goes on.
SO…can you help me out? Do you have a recipe that you love that we could add here? Let’s create a bank of go-to ideas that people can dip into when inspiration is low and need is high.
Email your recipe to me at [email protected] and I’ll add it to this blog!
